SAMMY'S NOODLE SHOP & GRILL

453 Ave of the Americas (cross street: w. 11th)
[just about anything to 14th, Union Square]

How I love noodles, let me count the ways.

Got out of work on a rainy day with a taste for noodle soup, and on the way out I saw a menu. Meeting JP downstairs, I mentioned noodles and the rough addy. Oh, he says, you must mean Sammy's. (The boy knows both food and Soho - what a winner.) So we head up there in the misting/rain, eventually disembarking at the strangely traditional looking Sammy's. Its somewhere between fast food American chinese and what I'd imagine Chinese chinese to be like.

We eventually decided on steamed little juicy bums, which I've never ordered before because the name is a little questionable. But they were delicious - I just wish I'd thought it through beforehand; they are indeed both hot and juicy, wrapped so tightly that the steam is trapped inside, ominously lying in wait for you. So stuffing one of these in your mouth ? Not a good idea.

Followed it up with a steaming, sizzling platter :: Sa Cha Beef with veggies over noodles. We substituted some thinner noodles for the doughy noodles generally served. Split the two between the two of us and got monstrously full - for next to nothing - so I was chivalrous and picked up the check; $17 including tip. I do love this city.
