CAVIAR & BANANA
12 East 22nd Street (just off Broadway)
[6 or N, R to 23rd]
Ended up here as an added perk from the job; a model search was being co-sponsored by the company where I am employed, so they decided to take all of these attractive people to dinner in an equally attractive place, should the press catch wind of the event.
And the restaurant is attractive; high ceiling, creative seating (think booths gone boho), an open air feel (which I can't imagine translating to the Winter months, but perfect for July).
As we were in a large group (and on the company dime), we didn't order off the menu, so I can't make any real recommendations; I know what I had and I know it was good :: an artful array of appetizer plates featuring prosciutto, mushrooms, onions and olives; salad with pineapple juice vinagrette, bananas, raisins and nuts; mini pizzas with ... pineapple and some other unorthodox toppings. The "main course" was a couple of dishes - all different, all pleasing; chicken in some kind of sauce, a fish that escapes memory, an interpretation of churrascaria. And the wine was good, too.
