CIBAR

56 Irving Plaza
[just about anything to Union Square]

Had a great couple of afternoon/evenings here drinking with Giorgio and then one truly uncomfortable afternoon/evening here when I introduced Giorgio to some female friends. Uff Da. But at least the drinks were good - a might pricey, but good. Call me crazy, but $12 cocktails are for the birds; personally I preferred the $9 Berry Sangria, which comes laden with fresh, delicious berries. As far as food goes, Cibar runs the gamut from, say, and apple + brie quesadilla (meatless quesadillas are similarly for le birds) to pigs in a blanket (yeah, I was confused by this too - how can $12 cocktails and PIGS IN A BLANKET exist alongside one another ? Then again, the mustard was some kind of fancy). Despite ordering them more than once, I would shy away from ordering the chicken because, well, I just don't believe in appetizers that border on inedible when you don't use the provided sauce. IF the sauce is that necessary, why not put it on the dish in the kitchen to hide your gross culinary incompetance? At least the short-haired waitress is helpful, cute and works most nights. Or maybe, just the nights that I've come in.
