JENNY'S CAFE
113 St. Mark's Place
[6 to Astor Place; N, R to Broadway/Lafayette]
Our friend Anthea is incredibly difficult to get a hold of - something about not always having her phone or being able to check her messages. So when she tells us to meet her at point A at time B, we generally acquiesce, generally because there's no real way to change plans and still guarantee a morning/afternoon/evening with her. Which is what led a rag tag gang of us alll the way down to Avenue A and St. Mark's (before which, incidentally, I didn't know that St. Mark's went that far), searching for bubble tea ("BOBA!" contradicted my adorable and often correct intern, Melissa).
Jenny's Cafe is independently run and depending on what you're into, it can run you not so much or quite a bit. Our party was on the fence about the boba (tapioca balls) - Cal said they tasted as though they had gone bad, while Mel had no complaints - but I safely skirted them by ordering some kind of peach thing that tasted as though it was made of REAL FRUIT. How 'bout them apples.
